Jail and Detention Center Visit

I provide notary visits only at facilities that allow outside notaries, and the booking is accepted only after the facility confirms the visit, the time and its ID rules. Please call 407-719-1226 first. The visit fee is a flat $200, travel included, and it includes 1 to 3 stamps. Each extra stamp is $10 (one stamp is one completed notarial certificate; $10 is the Florida maximum, s. 117.05(2)(a)).

How a jail or detention center visit works

  1. Call first. Tell me the facility, the inmate's full name and booking number, and the document.
  2. Facility confirms. I confirm that the facility allows outside notaries, the time, and its ID rules.
  3. Pre-visit check. I check with the person who booked before I leave.
  4. Identification. A Florida Department of Corrections inmate ID issued on or after January 1, 1991, a federal Bureau of Prisons inmate ID, or, if the inmate's ID was confiscated, a sworn written statement from a sworn law enforcement officer (s. 117.05(5)(b)2). Credible witnesses may be used if none of these is available.
  5. Notarization. I watch the signer sign and complete the notarization.

60 minutes are included, counting security and facility wait. After that, Extended Time applies ($40 per extra 30 minutes). Paid in full at booking.

What to bring

  • The inmate's full legal name, booking number and facility. Volusia County visits need the 6 digit booking number.
  • The document, complete with all pages and not signed.
  • Tell the inmate ahead of time what they are signing, because the notary cannot explain it.
  • A jail wristband or booking card is not an accepted ID by itself.
  • If the signer doesn't read or speak English well, please bring an interpreter you trust. We can't provide or arrange one.

If your document needs witnesses, bring your own (free) or add witnesses when you book, at least 24 hours ahead. Any witness we supply is disinterested. Witness access depends on the facility's rules.
